Find It @ FAU Frequently Asked Questions

(Powered by SFX) If you do not find the answer to your question here, please use our Ask A Librarian! service or stop by the Reference desk for assistance.

What is Find It @ FAU?

When searching in one of the FAU Libraries electronic resources, Find It @ FAU provides direct links from a citation in one database to the full text of that article (when available) in another FAU Libraries database.

The direct link may take you to the full text article within an electronic journal or an electronic book.  Find It @ FAU will also link you to the FAU Libraries catalog (Endeca) so that you can check to see if FAU owns the item.  If we don't and the full-text is not available online, you may request it through Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad).

When you are searching the FAU Libraries databases, you may be in a database which provides access to full-text articles only, citations and some full-text articles, or citations only.   If you are searching in a database where you do not have immediate access to the full text, clicking on the   button will provide the following options when available:
Who can use Find It @ FAU?

Anyone on the FAU campuses may use the Find It @ FAU links that appear in the FAU Libraries databases. Find It @ FAU may also be accessed off-campus by current FAU students, faculty and staff after logging into EZproxy (EZproxy allows current FAU students, faculty and staff remote access to the FAU Libraries electronic resources).

Why doesn't my Find It @ FAU menu window appear?

If you use one of the popular "pop-up" blocker utilities it may block the Find It @ FAU menu window; temporarily disable your pop-up blocker, or add the site you're searching (where you found the Find It @ FAU menu button) to your blocker's list of sites from which pop-ups are allowed.

When I click on a second option from the Find It @ FAU menu, why don't I see the browser window appear?

This is a problem in Internet Explorer. After clicking on an option in the Find It @ FAU window, IE opens another browser window on top of the one already open. After making a second selection from the Find It @ FAU menu, the second browser window remains hidden. To fix this problem, you may need to drag the second window to another location on your screen to be able to see the window underneath.

When I clicked on full text, why was I brought to the journal's home page instead of the article?

The goal of Find It @ FAU is to link you directly to the full text article. There will be times when Find It @ FAU is unable to do so because of the way a particular publisher has structured its web site. When this happens, Find It @ FAU will get you as close to the full text as possible by linking to the journal's table of contents or  home page.
